Plymouth Argyle u-18s 3 Forest Green Rovers 0
The young Pilgrims opened their Football League Youth Alliance account at the first time of asking with this victory over the leagues newest side at Langsford Park, Tavistock.
Argyle completely dominated the first half as they looked good going forward but the failed to make the most of at least six good chances before goalkeeper Michael Cooper pulled off a great save to prevent Rovers taking the lead in their only real chance of the first period.
There was two minutes remaining of the half when Argyle finally made the breakthrough with Luke Jephcott bursting into the area where he was felled by a defender and he picked himself up to fire the spot-kick low past the visiting ‘keeper’s left hand.
Argyle created two more chances, early in the second half, but then allowed the visitors back into the game and only two more fine saves by Cooper maintained their lead before they struck twice in the final 10 minutes to seal victory.
Michael Peck sent in a shot, from the edge of the area, that was blocked but he reacted the quickest to power home the rebound.
Five minutes later Billy Craske cut inside from the left to rifle the ball into the net to finally end Rovers stubborn resistance and give the result a truer reflection.
